💡 Study Tips

1

Understand concepts enough for you to teach them to a 5th grader.

2

Practice equilibrium and acid-base calculations until they feel automatic.

3

Memorize oxidation state assignment rules and practice them on varied examples.

4

Review Le Chatelier's Principle with many examples: concentration, temperature, and pressure changes.

5

For organic chemistry, make flash cards for each functional group showing structure and reactions.

6

Practice titration calculations (neutralization, back titration) from multiple sources.

Tips & Tricks

➡️

Always include units in numerical response answers

➡️

For redox balancing: balance O with water, H with H⁺, then balance charge with electrons.

➡️

pH calculations: pH = -log[H⁺] and pOH = -log[OH⁻]. Know the relationship Kw = [H⁺][OH⁻] = 1.0 x 10⁻¹⁴.

➡️

IUPAC naming: always find the longest carbon chain first, number from the end closest to a branch.

➡️

Equilibrium expressions: never include pure solids or pure liquids in the Keq expression.

📊 Mark Weighting
